A light for the moments that matter
A saint candle is a gift for the days worth marking and for the days when words fall short. Here are the occasions they suit, with the saints we would suggest for each.
Confirmation
Many take a saint's name at confirmation, and a candle of that saint is a gift they can keep long after the day. Set on a shelf or a dresser, it lights itself each evening on its own timer.
First communion
A first communion is a day a child remembers, and a candle of Mary or Joseph gives them something to keep from it. There is no open flame, and the built-in daily timer lights it each evening on its own.
A wake or memorial
At a wake, a lit candle says what is hard to put into words. Give one to the family and its daily timer will light it each evening once the visitors have gone home.
A feast day
Each of our saints has a day of their own in the Church calendar. A candle given a few days ahead is a simple way to keep that day with someone.
- St. Patrick, March 17
- St. Joseph, March 19
- St. Anthony, June 13
- St. Jude, October 28
A hospital stay
A hospital room is no place for an open flame, and this candle has none. It has no flame and no smoke, and its daily timer lights it each evening during the stay.
A new home
St. Joseph is the patron of families and St. Thomas of builders, so either one is a fitting first thing to set in a new home. Turn on its daily timer and it gives a small light each evening while the house becomes theirs.
Christmas
The St. Mary candle carries the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast is December 12, so it makes a fitting gift on her day or at Christmas. Each one arrives in its own box, ready to wrap.
All Souls
On All Souls, November 2, many families light a candle for the people they have lost. This one lights each evening on its daily timer, a small light kept for them.
What to write
A candle says a lot on its own. If you want to add a card, here are a few places to start.
For someone in a hard season
I am sending you this light so you remember you do not have to carry everything today. I say a prayer for your strength and peace every time I think of you. You are not alone.
Just because
You have a gift for being light in other people's lives, and I wanted to send a little of it back. May this brighten your favorite corner whenever you need reminding how loved you are.
For healing
Peace of mind is the best gift I know. I chose a candle with no flame so you can keep a quiet light by you without a single worry. I am lighting one for you tonight too.
Short and sweet
A little light for a big heart. Praying for you.
