Why Five 1316
Matthew 5, verses 13 to 16: salt and light.
Five 1316 is named for that passage. The company behind the candles is Salt & Light Candle LLC of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and both names come from those four verses.

A note from our founder
I have always loved what a single candle does to a room. After breast cancer, that changed for me. I did not want smoke or soot in my house anymore, and the candles I used to light for a prayer or a quiet minute started to feel like one more thing to worry about.
I was not willing to give up the ritual. Five 1316 began there: a candle you can turn on, say a prayer by, and leave lit, with nothing burning. Real wax, colored glass, a saint who means something to you, and a light that comes on each evening on its own.
We are called to be salt and light. These candles are our small way of doing that, for the people praying for healing, honoring someone they have lost, or finding their footing in a hard season. St. Agatha, the patron of those facing breast cancer, has a particular place in this collection for that reason.
If one of them is sitting on your table tonight, I hope it brings you some peace.

A small ritual
When you turn the candle on, take a breath. Let go of one worry, say a prayer, or set an intention for the evening. Even a small light changes a room.
